Unheard Heroes: The Triumphant Tale of Cape Town’s Deaf Football Champions

Cape Town South Africa – In an exhilarating end to the season, the Cape Town City Deaf Football Club (CTCDFC), supported by Play Sport4Life (PS4L), has risen to the top of the league, showcasing the remarkable talents and unwavering spirit of its players. This victory marks not just a sports triumph, but a significant milestone in the recognition and support of deaf athletes in South Africa.

Despite facing logistical challenges, including long-distance travel to places like Gauteng and Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, CTCDFC’s dedication never wavered. The team’s success is attributed to the unwavering support of their sponsors and donors, who provided crucial assistance for transport, accommodation, and meals.

“This season has been a testament to the hard work and resilience of our players,” said Ndipiwe Masiba, Chairperson, of the CTCDFC. “Our journey to the top of the league is a story of overcoming obstacles and the incredible support we received from PS4L and the Deaf Soccer League (DSL).”

The CTCDFC finished with 30 points, closely followed by Deaf Arrows FC with 29 points. Their achievement is a beacon of hope and inspiration for deaf athletes across the South Africa, proving that with the right support, anything is possible.

However, the struggle for adequate funding and resources in the Deaf Soccer League continues. “We are immensely grateful for the support we’ve received so far, but there is still a long way to go,” added Masiba. “We urge businesses and government bodies to recognize the potential in these athletes and the importance of leagues like the DSL.”

The CTCDFC is now setting its sights on next year’s Africa Champs, with ambitions to continue their winning streak and bring more trophies home. They call upon the community, businesses, and philanthropists to come forward and support their journey and the broader cause of sports development for deaf individuals in South Africa.
