We trust that the year ahead will be a good one for everyone.
We here at Play Sport4Life hope to continue the good work in the community to build on our achievements of the past 12 months.
This is our fifth year in existence and our baby steps are getting bigger and our reach is extending further.
There is much to be done to achieve our goals to work towards building a healthier, stronger community through active participation in sport. We believe it will go a long way to eradicate the scourge of drugs and gangsterism in our disadvantaged communities.
Before we look at what we have planned for 2019, let’s look at what we achieved in 2018.
Play Sport4Life ran very successful holiday clinics for schoolchildren where they could learn and develop skills in various codes under the expert eye of our specialist coaches. Our holiday camps extended from Atlantis, through Kensington, Athlone, Philippi, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu and Mitchell’s Plain.
We organised a number of charity events, most notably golf days, to help worthy causes that align with our ethos, and a Women’s Month Multi-Sport Festival.
Our most notable achievement in 2018 was undoubtedly establishing the Sports Legends Hall of Fame, in which 22 of our stars of yesteryear were honoured and inducted at a gala event during Heritage Month in September.
The response to the Legends Hall of Fame was phenomenal with many people saying such an institution was long overdue and complimented us on drawing on nine different codes to find our stars.
Play Sport4Life is proud to have played a role in acknowledging the people who contributed to our sports history during the darkest hours of non-racial sport in this country.
There are many more local heroes who qualify for the Legends Hall of Fame and Play Sport4Life has concrete plans to have another group to induct later this year as we plan to make this an annual event.
Of course, we will also be running our holiday program as per usual and our expert coaches will be available to help wherever needed.
Please spread the word about Play Sport4Life. We are a not-for-profit community-based organisation that depends on sponsorship and financial support to function to the best of our ability.
We welcome donations of any kind that will help ease the load. There is a DONATE button on our home page. Feel free to use it. Every little bit helps. We welcome your support in our ways.
We hope to see you at our events in 2019.
